Will Gov. Hochul Address the #StateOfNYWomen?

During Governor Hochul’s fourth State of the State address today, January 14th at 1:00PM, she will announce her priorities for the coming budget and legislative session.

Will the Governor address these key priorities identified by the PowHer ® NY Partners? Let us know online using #StateofNYWomen!

  • A permanent compensation fund for the child care workforce.
  • New funding to train child care educators working with children who have special needs.
  • Professional, competitive wages for the home care work force and a response to strong concerns regarding the restructuring of the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance (CDPA) program.
  • Expansion and enforcement of pay equity and transparency laws, and protection of workers’ rights against federal rollbacks.
  • Financial assistance for women who are forced to travel to NYS in order to access reproductive health care services, and for capital improvements to accommodate this growing demand.
  • A contingency fund for family planning services should a “gag order” be added to federal Title X funding.
  • Policies to protect the confidentiality of reproductive health records and services.
  • A new, increased benefit rate for all workers who qualify for Temporary Disability Insurance.
  • Increased funding and protection of Domestic Violence programs and services.
  • Support for Kyra’s Law (A3346A/S3170A) to protect the health and safety of children during child custody and visitation proceedings.
  • Innovative proposals to address New York’s housing crisis.
  • Program proposals and funding to address New York’s high rate of maternal and infant mortality.
  • Addressing tax inequity with increases for New York’s wealthiest residents.
  • An overhaul of the administration of state contracts with nonprofit agencies to ensure prompt payment.
  • A strong stand against sweeping federal deportation actions that ignore or potentially violate due process, and undermine our economy.
  • Action on the Climate Emergency.
  • Action to address inflation and medical debt.

And other key priorities for ensuring universal child care, fair pay for female-dominated roles, a robust paid medical leave program, safety for women against gender based violence, stable housing for women & families, financially accessible abortion and reproductive health care services, and closing the gender pay gap.

PowHerNY and our network of over 100 gender and racial justice organizations and advocates across New York State, will continue to work together to hold our government accountable to improving the State of NY Women.
