In 2024, with the support of the Amplify Her Foundation grant, PowHer® New York will recruit and train our first LEAP (Leaders for Equity, Advocacy and Progress) Initiative cohort.
To create enduring change, we will use the LEAP Initiative to engage, educate and inspire diverse female leaders to innovate, activate, and advocate in our movement. It is critical to build a pipeline of leaders from diverse backgrounds who are prepared to step up into leadership roles, whether they be in public roles, such as running for office, working in organizations whose purpose is to create policy change, or community organizing as activists and advocates for specific issues.
The LEAP program will bring organizers and practitioners into community with program participants, allowing for learning, networking, and collective action. We will center the voices of women of color as guest speakers and strongly encourage women of color to apply.
Who should apply?
Young women, especially women of color, ages 21-36 who are interested in developing skills in advocacy, coalition building, communications and lobbying, with a focus on promoting economic justice.
- Community activists wanting to develop further skills and learn about the process of policy change
- Graduate students in public policy, law, women’s studies, social work, etc.
- Young women in the workplace who may be interested in exploring careers in public policy
- Individuals who live or work in New York City. If you reside in the tri-state area, you can still apply.
Commitment to participate in monthly virtual sessions from April to November 2024. There is no cost to participants and about 25 participants will be selected on the basis of their application and interview.
What to Expect From the Program
