In May 2021, PowHer™ New York hosted a workshop on New York’s pending ‘salary range transparency’ legislation, S5598A Ramos / A6529 Joyner. Watch below to hear compelling remarks from Assembly member Joyner, Seher Khawaja (Legal Momentum), Miram Clark (NELA/NY) and John O’Malley (CWA Local 1180).
Our new factsheet, Why NY Needs a Law Requiring Disclosure of Salary Ranges for All Employment Opportunities, outlines how salary range transparency will create a shift in practices, and in culture, to put all workers on more equal footing and to help end the pernicious wage gap that continues to rob some workers, particularly women of color, of fair wages and economic well-being. Specifically, the bill will:
- Facilitate fair negotiations between jobseekers, especially women and people of color, and employers,
- Diminish overt and implicit bias,
- Limit exploitation of workers who have been historically underpaid and undervalued,
- Create more comprehensive and complementary protections,
- Reduce rates of poverty,
- And provide more data to identify discrimination.
And, it is a beneficial, best practice for business. To learn more, check out the full factsheet on our website.
