In 2019 New York advocacy organizations worked with Governor Cuomo and legislative leaders to pass stronger, and much needed, sexual harassment protections for women in the workplace. Among the many new protections, S.6577 Biaggi/A.8421 Simotas updated the standard for sexual harassment to make it easier for New York employees to hold their employers accountable for sexual harassment at work. In addition, the New York law now guarantees that employees who sign non-disclosure agreements are still allowed to participate in investigations into sexual harassment and prohibits mandatory arbitration clauses related to discrimination.
Advocates joined PowHerNY and the TIME’S UP Foundation in a webinar to learn more about the new law, understand how they impact workers in the state, review employee “Know Your Rights” tools, and be a part of the effort to spread the word to protect workers, improve the workplace, and change the culture!
